About Bor Bor

Bor Bor—

  • believes artist bios are stupid and boring, and that no one reads them anyway.
  • lives with Jasper—a one-eyed dog of dubious ancestry and unstable temperament.
  • believes the dirtier your car, the less likely it is to be stolen.
  • pretends spiders don’t creep him out.
  • loves brainstorming and has started more than 173 idea notebooks—which he can never find. But that’s okay, because he’s not all that good at follow-through anyway.
  • believes his best ideas come to him in his sleep, so he should get paid for naps, right?
  • doesn’t understand why anyone would ingest anything green—unless it’s St. Patty’s day. Then we’re just talking cupcakes with green frosting and dyed beer.
  • only does a weekly cartoon because more than that would cut into his nap time.
  • has learned the hard way that little rattlesnakes don’t necessarily have rattles. FYI fun-fact: when born, (and yes, rattlesnakes are live bearers) a rattlesnake has a button instead of a rattle and doesn’t make warning sounds if you get too close. But baby rattlesnakes do have venom. Bor Bor learned that camping. And speaking of camping …
  • now knows that putting a rock from the campfire, wrapped in cloth, at the bottom of your sleeping bag to keep your feet warm, is a bad idea. You always read about people doing that in books. They make it sound so reasonable. Ever tried it? DON’T. Hot rocks and polyester DO NOT MIX. An hour after nighty-night there will be a Whoomph sound, and your new sleeping bag will go up like an exploding gas main.
  • doesn’t like camping anymore.

And ooooo–I saw you on the community pool, too. I went to your blog and then accidentally closed the tab. I will go back and comment sometime today.

  3. Hi Bor Bor, I saw you on the community pool and after all the comments about your awesome ‘about’ page, I had to check it out. They were right, it’s great, and so are your cartoons!!
I’m sorry to hear about your unfortunate camping adventure, but here’s another FYI fun fact for you (incase you ever decide to brave it again) you should avoid having rocks in your campfire at all, because certain types of rocks absorb moisture and will explode when exposed to high heat.
Also, your header is great. You’re really talented. 🙂

  4. Ha! It’s funny how much I agree with you. On basically everything from the dirty car to the brilliant ideas coming to one in sleep.

    • It’s great to know I’m not the only quirky one in the world.
I did a weekly cartoon for a newspaper for a while, but their readers didn’t care for my style of humor, so I’m really happy to find other people who look at the world from a …lets say, tilted perspective.
And speaking of tilted … I really love the video you had in your recent photo challenge. It was funny, quirky, and I think poignant.

      • Heh, of course you’re not the only quirky person. That would make the world extremely boring. It’s sad that the newspaper job didn’t work out for you — I have also found out that the kind of humour I like is probably not mainstream because hardly anyone else finds it funny. So, you were too good for them. Thanks for visiting my blog too, and keep your blog thriving!

  5. Funny & Original About page & I like your cartoons too!
Though…I get my inspirations when I wake up, I take my nap-time very seriously…& I think it is a great idea to get paid to sleep! Lol

I don’t wanna miss your cartoons…(I also used to sketch cartoons & comics when I was a kid before I went into architecture and I know this is one creative effort) …I am definitely following this blog! ☺

    • Thanks! Given the first line of my ‘about page’ it’s massively ironic that people like it. I’m thrilled, but amazed.

And I’m glad to find another napper, though I’d rather my brilliant ideas came to me after I’d stopped yawning, like yours do. It’s terrible to wake up thinking “oh–that is goo–“, only to have the thought turn to vapor.

  6. Hi, I nominated you for the One Lovely Blog Award, if you decide to accept it you can read all about it http://lifefoodandme.com/2014/10/29/one-lovely-blog-award/#more-384

    • Woo–Hoo and thank you! (And I just figured out what that little like button on individual comments is for. Live and learn.)

I’ve never gotten an award in my life, though I did win a best Halloween costume contest at the mall when I was ten. OK–it’s been a long dry spell.

Before my tearful acceptance, I have one question: Do I have to answer the questions right away, or do I get a few days to compose pithy and witty answers? (Because I may be funny sometimes, but I have never been accused of being ‘quick’.)

  8. Use a wine bottle, never hot rocks:

    1. Drink the wine (this will definitely improve the camping experience).
    2. Fill the empty bottle with water.
    3. Place the bottle in a kettle of boiling water and heat.
    4. Remove the bottle from the kettle and cork the bottle.
    5. Wrap the bottle in a towel and place in the bottom of your sleeping bag.

Your feet will never get cold and the temperature of the wine bottle will always be below the flash point of your sleeping bag. Do not worry about the cork popping out; it will pull further into the bottle as it cools. You can reheat the bottle the next night if you have not already bailed on the camping.

The bottom line, everything is better with wine.

    • Thanks so much! 🙂 I’m gonna have to think hard to answer some of those–it might take me a while because my brain goes on strike, randomly. And I’ll definitely check out the other blogs that you nominated. Some of those blog titles are great! (Wish I’d thought of them.)
